An Art Nouveau binding design in gold on smooth cream colored cloth of a central espalier of the Old Red Damask Rose (Rosa gallica officinalis) in the style of Turbayne, with sinuous intertwining stems leaves, flowers and buds forming a cartouche that hold the titles. The spine with titles and a repeat of the central rose vine motif in gold; edges uncut, t.e.g.

Includes color frontis. and 15 additional color illustrations by Minnie Dibdin Spooner.

An anthology of 200 English and American poems for children organized with simple poems that are easy to learn at the beginning of the volume, progressing in complexity and difficulty throughout the volume. It was Chisholm's hope that a child given the book at 4 year old would learn 20 poems a year, and would complete the book by the age of 14.

A near fine copy with offsetting to the eps and faint scattered foxing to the foredge. Laid in is a contemporary T. C. and E. C. Jack leaflet advertising the "£200 Prize Book for Boys, Contraband Tommy, A Tale of the Dreadnought Era".

A scarce title and binding, exceptionally so in this condition.
