A humorous poetic retelling of Jules Massenet's opera based on the novel Thaïs by Anatole France. Originally published in Levy's Opera Guyed (1923), where Levy retold the libretti of the standard opera cannon in humorous light verse. Levey's work is similar to that of Gilbert and Sullivan and humorist and poet Guy Wetmore Carryl, transforming it into stories the average guy (person) could understand - thus Levy entitled the book an Opera "Guyed" (guide - yes, a pun was intended here). Thaïs takes place in Egypt under the rule of the Roman Empire, where a monk, attempts to convert Thaïs, an Alexandrian courtesan to Christianity. The story reveals the courtesan's true purity of heart, and that the monk's obsession with her is rooted in lust. Thais was one of Levy's most popular poems and was reprinted separately from Levy's Opera Guyed many times.

A very good copy with a faint 1' damp stain near the left top corner that is barely visible by the rear pastedown; faint rubbing to the lower edge near the tips. Exceptionally scarce, with this single run of 250 copies being the entire output for this production; OCLC indicates only 12 copies world wide.
