[Geneva]: Ex typographia Iacobi Stoer., 1630. 32mo (4 3/4” x 3 1/4”). pp. [62], 476, 35, [96]. Contemporary (Baroque/Early-modern era) laced case limp vellum binding bound on twisted vegetable fiber cords. Spine with author's name written in ink. Decorative initial caps and chapter heads.

The Lives of the Twelve Caesars in Eight Books is the most important surviving work of Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus (69 – after 122 CE), commonly known as Suetonius, a Roman historian who wrote during the early Imperial era of the Roman Empire. The present book is a collective biography of the Roman Empire's first leaders, including Julius Caesar, Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, Galba, Otho, Vitellius, Vespasian, Titus and Domitian. The work includes the earliest accounts of Julius Caesar's epileptic seizures.

A very good copy of the exceptionally scarce Stoer 1630 issue, with light soiling that becomes moderate on the spine; light wear to the foot of the spine; evidence of previous worm activity on the spine and to the paste down papers; free endpapers neatly removed; light foxing and toning; occasional contemporary ink marks.
