Quarto (10¾” x 8 ”). pp. vii, [1], 197, [1]. IN THE ORIGINAL BOX.

Unsigned Hugh Thomson binding design in gold on purple cloth. The original box has a title and borders in olive with a color paper onlay of the illustration found opposite page 3.

Includes pictorial title page, color frontispiece and 21 additional tipped-in color plates each with captioned tissue-guard. Black and white vignette and full page illustrations scattered throughout.

Barrie's comedy about two sisters who start a school "for genteel children", is also a satire on nineteenth century romance.

A near fine copy with slight tarnishing to the spine. The good+ box shows cello tape repairs at two corners of the lower box with two corners loose; the upper box is lacking one side panel and a small portion of the opposite side panel. Exceptionally scarce in this condition and with the rare original box. Spielmann and Jerrold, 55.
