The present book is the symbolic tale of how the Princess Kildeen learned courtesy and good temper, and of her quarrel and reconciliation with Mrs. V. Populi. In this story, as in many of her other children's books, Marie was able to "open a door to the real life of royalty, to give colour, character and comical insight to her world". Marie was also well aware of gender expectations attached to the royalty of her time, and explains in Naughty Kildeen to her juvenile readers.

Although the present issue has no identified publisher on the title page, the publisher is identified at the base of the spine as (Humphrey) Milford, indicating that the book is the true first edition. Later issues of this book still have the limitation statement, but they were issued later in 1922 by the Oxford University Press with their imprint on the title page. The book was also issued by Harcourt, Brace and Company for the American market later the same year, again with the original limitation statement still in place. OCLC identifies only 2 copies of this first issue worldwide.

A bright very good+ copy, with occasional finger smudges, rubbing to the corners and light wear to the extremities. The exceptionally scarce first issue of a rare book. The very good slipcase has had the rear panel professionally replaced.
