Unsigned binding design in two tones of textured silver gilt and cream on a spring green linen weave cloth of a the titles in the lower half of the board surrounded by a "flight" of butterflies crossing a hillside with trees, with clouds and sky in the background. Spine with titles and three butterfly motif in cream and silver.
A collection of 13 short stories about the hopes struggles, victories and defeats of the men and women in the backwoods of New England and the West. In a contemporary interview, the author mentioned that she found her stories while researching old town records.
A near fine copy with offsetting to the eps, the edges of the title and dedication pages from a previous dust jacket, and multiple ownership marks on the ffep from both a contemporary owner and a later owner.
