Square 8vo (6¾” x 9 ”). pp. 342. Holiday edition. Unsigned early Art Nouveau binding design by E. A. Abbey in black, silver and gold on tan cloth of an early Danish folk design of tulips in a central panel surmounted with bold lettered titles and hand-drawn sunbursts that extend to the spine, and then extend further in blind onto the rear board above Boughton's title banner from the first edition in blind; the spine has a repeat of the folk-art tulip motif and lettered titles. Includes Frontis. and 88 additional black and white vignette and full page illustrations by Boughton, Abbey and J. E. Rogers.

Initially published as a serial in Harper's Monthly starting in January, 1883 under the title "Artist-strolls in Holland", this clear and bright narrative of Boughton and Abbey's tour of the Netherlands includes descriptive and amusing text of Dutch life and manners based on the author's experiences and illustrations from life during their journey.

A very good copy of the exceptionally scarce holiday edition, with light soiling, moderate rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, a ” split to the cloth at the head, and heavy rubbing to the top/bottom edges of the corners. Contemporary gift inscription on the first flyleaf.
