An unsigned early 19th century binding in brick red morocco with a double fillet gold border with an intricate inner border stamped in blind of tulips, stylized hearts and interwoven curls; an elongated central panel with blind stamped rope-work borders and fleuron cornices, with an outer border of a dog tooth border in blind with corner tulip arabesques and double fillet borders in gold; narrow dentelles with a zigzag and fleuron pattern in gold; spine with 4 gold decorated raised bands with the titles in gold within a single compartment, and the remaining compartments decorated in gold with arabesques and pointillé work; black eps; green ribbon marker; a.e.g.

Includes engraved title page and 5 additional full page engravings by Charles Heath after designs by Richard Westall, R.A.

The copy of Sir Charles Tennant, Baronet with his armorial bookplate on the front paste-down, and from the collection of David Richardson, with his ownership mark on the front flyleaf showing the date and place acquired.

A very good copy of an exceptionally scarce early 19th century English binding with light to moderate rubbing of the extremities, the Tennant armorial bookplate of the front paste-down and the ownership mark of David Richardson on the front paste-down.
