12mo (4 1/4” x 6 3/4”). pp. 251. Unsigned binding in smooth floral ribbon-embossed cloth; yellow eps.

Part of a series of a series of religious manuals that were quite popular in both Britain and America. The Marthas was the second of four works by Philip on female virtue, that were collectively known as The Ladies' Closet Library.

A very good copy with scattered foxing throughout that is heavier near the prelims. Slight fading to the spine cloth that does not affect the gilt stamped titles; a 3/8” line of offsetting to the top edge of the front board; contemporary gift-inscription on the ffep.

A scarce instance of this floral embossed cloth over the exceptionally scarce first (American) edition - OCLC indicates only 1 copy of this edition world-wide.
