8vo (5¼" x 7¾"). pp. [i-vi]; 2-364. Light brown half-leather over blue and peach marbled boards. Spine with 5 raised bands decorated in blind and 6 compartments; 5 decorated with a fleuron and in blind, and the sixth with a black calf label and titles in gold. Half-title and advts. were left out during contemporary rebind, but collation against the Baker and Ross collation and comparison to Eliot's proof revisions both indicate that this is a first edition.
Considered one of the greatest novels of the English language, Silas Marner is the story of a lonely miserly man who is redeemed through his love for an abandoned child.
Scattered minor foxing, mostly at the endpapers heavier towards the prelims; small, neat ownership mark to the flyleaf; light edge wear with some light to moderate rubbing, otherwise a beautiful copy. Sadleir 819; Baker and Ross A6.
