S4to (8" x 9¼"). pp. 318. Unsigned binding design in gold on blue canvas cloth with white canvas onlay. Includes frontis. and 54 additional illustrations in b/w by W. C. Jackson. A history for boys of the American Navy during the Civil War. A stunning and quite evocative binding of a tall ship sail and its rigging with titles designed to look as if made from rope, and the sail made from a cream canvas onlay to give dimensionality to the design.
A handsome copy with rubbing to the extremities and rear board and a small (1/8") chip in the cloth at the lower right corner. Scarce in this binding and in this condition. PBO.pba02502.bib.
