Washington Irving used Bonneville's notes and maps to create his non-fiction account of Benjamin de Bonneville's (1796 – 1878) expedition for the U.S. Army from Missouri to Oregon that began in 1832. Irving's account of de Bonneville's explorations was originally published in 1837.
