8vo (6˝” x 8˝”). pp. 180. Quarter black morocco over black linen. PRESENTATION COPY, boldly inscribed and signed by Lawrence to his friend, Eduardo Rendón, a Mexican intellectual and rare book dealer: "Eduardo Rendón from D.H. Lawrence." Considered both by Lawrence and the critics to be his finest volume of poems, Birds, Beasts and Flowers was "one of the earliest works of Modernism to take full advantage of the power of free verse" (New World Encyclopedia).
This book of nature poems reflects on the birds, beasts and flowers Lawrence encountered in his travels in Italy, the American Southwest, Australia and Ceylon between 1919 and 1923. These poems show the influence of Walt Whitman and include some verse that is erotic in nature.
