A series of sketches of the peoples and places of the Gaspé Coast (the Gaspé peninsula runs along the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada), which at the time of writing was little known and sparsely inhabited. The book also includes a glossary of place names, lighthouses and light signals and well as 35 illustrations after photographs of places and cultural objects important to the Gaspé.
A striking binding design of Percé Rock in the moonlight with the moon and the rock reflected in the water, with a sailing ship and its reflection on the water in gold and black on the spine. A lovely copy with some faint wear to the extremities, a small, embossed ownership mark along the top of the title page, and a signature on the front paste-down. Minsky 3:37.
