Washington Irving used Bonneville's notes and maps to create his non-fiction account of Benjamin de Bonneville's (1796 – 1878) expedition for the U.S. Army from Missouri to Oregon that began in 1832. De Bonneville eventually attained the rank of brigadier general (1865). Irving's account of de Bonneville's explorations was originally published in 1837. A scarce Margaret Armstrong masterwork.
