Signed publisher’s binding by Hugh Thomson in smooth green cloth gold stamped with titles, a potted plant, a tea service and playing cards; spine stamped in gold with titles and floral decorations; cream end papers; a.e.g. Frontis. with tissue guard and over 100 b/w line block illustrations by Hugh Thomson, including headpieces, tailpieces, historiated initials and textual vignettes – a tour de force of Hugh Thomson’s delicate interpretation of Early 19th Century England. Part of the Macmillan Cranford Series. Balston I 4; Rogerson 4. A very good copy + with slight oxidation to gilt and head of spine chipped as usual.
