M8vo (9” x 6”). pp. xvii; 142. Limited edition of 750 copies. Green cloth boards with titles stamped in gold on spine. Frontis portrait of Castlemon and 16 B/W illustrations including photographs of Castlemon books and a letter in Castlemon's hand; forward by Franklin Adams, short biographical article by Raymond Fosdick and interview with Castlemon by Carabel Munger; publication chronology, title index and appendix containing the contents of letters from fosdick to his publisher. Book in Very Good condition in Good unclipped dust jacket with three small (1”) open tears. Charles Austin Fosdick, whose pen name was “Harry Castlemon”, used his personal experiences during the civil war as a basis for his “Gunboat Series” of books for boys in the mid 19th C, and followed this with many further adventure book series that were extremely popular with boys until his retirement in the early 20th C.
