Signed Alice Morse Art Nouveau publisher's binding in olive cloth heavily gold stamped in a stained glass motif forming a central cartouche bearing the titles. Spine stamped with titles and same design in gilt. Includes frontis. and 39 additional full page black and white portraits reproductions of the women discussed. Sketches of women in history famous for their intellect or beauty that excersised great political influence either actively or passively by 19th century literati including Dumas, Swinburne, Paget and others. A very good + copy with slight dulling to the spine, a bump to the front top corner and a contemporary ownership mark on the ffep. A scarce Morse design. Dubansky 98-4.
