8vo (6" x 8). Yellow cloth boards with titles and illustration of a pirate stamped in black, red and green on front cover. Illustrated paste-downs. Brass rivet binding. A pre-printed diary provided by W. R. Grace and Company to young passengers of its Grace Line cruisers headed for the Caribbean coast and Gulf of Mexico (the Spanish Main). The book provides a young sailer with diary space and information about life aboard ship and what to expect at their ports of call. This particular copy was owned by one Mikey Robinson from Sewickley, Pa. traveling to South America during the period 31 March, 1939 to 17 April 1939. Mikey was definitely a data man and collected a photo of his ship, the S.S. Santa Paula, detailed weather information, signatures of his captain and his fellow passengers, a detailed list of the wildlife he saw, and brief but evocative descriptions of his ports of call. A tight binding with a lightly age-toned text block with soiling to covers, wear to the spine and one bumped corner. G+.
