Printed in red and black and profusely illustrated by Jane Allen Boyer in the Golden Age tradition with full page color illustrations and textual vignette illustrations. Includes 10 tissue-paper fold-out clothing patterns. One in a series of seven books by Jane Eayre Fryer whose purpose was to teach children the domestic arts, The Mary Frances Sewing Book weaves lessons about basic sewing into a story about a little girl taught to sew by animated sewing tools called the Thimble People (think Beauty and the Beast) while she spends her summer vacation with Gandmother. An informative piece of cultural and fashion histiory of the early 20th century, The Mary Frances Cook Book is a snapshot of family life and the fashion of the time that includes tissue paper patterns and instructions for making doll clothes that range from a simple handkerchief to a full wedding dress. As it was meant to be used actively by children learning to sew, it can be difficult to find a copy with all of the tissue patterns intact. In very good condition with moderate to heavy edgewear, sunned spine and some light rubbing and scratching to the cloth and the paper onlay. All 10 of the tissue-paper patterns present (two are detached but present, and one has been used but is present).
