English spot pattern (see Wolfe, plate XXVIII); spine with titles in gilt and five raised bands each delineated by double gilt rules. Endpapers in same marbled paper as the binding. t.e.g. Title page of volume I illustrated with an engraving of the bust of Dean Swift housed in St. Patrick's Cathedral; Title page of volume II illustrated with an engraving of St. Patrick's Cathedral. A collection of anecdotes about Swift, witty passages from Swift's works, and critical comments by Wilson. Appended with a letter to the publisher from Theophilus Swift, the Irish writer and poet who was the second cousin of Dean Swift. Includes 5 facsimile letters. A entertaining collection of passages from Swift's works along with amusing anecdotes said to be by Swift, although the their authenticity is considered questionable. The wonderful addition of facsimile manuscript letters to and from Dean Swift makes this book a must for Swift collectors. A scarce work rarely found in condition with the facsimile letters intact.
