8vo (5½" x 8"). pp. 215 + publisher's advts. Signed binding design by Margaret Armstrong in green, black and gold on brown cloth of vertical fern fronds across the front board and titles within a cartouche made of fern fronds and their rhizome. Fern motif repeated on the spine. Includes 34 black and white photographs and 34 full page and textual illustrations of the ferns mentioned.
Previous owner's pressed fern samples tucked into the appropriate pages (no offsetting on the interior pages), descriptions of ferns and newspaper clippings found neatly tucked into handmade pockets created on the eps. A fascinating look at how an early 20th century woman used this book to participate in the sciences in a limited way. Some offsetting from pressed ferns onto the eps, otherwise a lovely copy. Scarce.
