Frontis. and over 70 b/w line block illustrations by Hugh Thomson, including headpieces, tailpieces, historiated initials and textual vignettes. a.e.g.This novel is based on Charles Reade’s 1852 play “Masks and Faces, which has Margaret “Peg” Woffington as the central character. Mrs. Woffington was a well-known Irish actress in 18th C. London.
